It behooves one when blogging something controversial to include different views. AI nay-sayers have been called Luddites. Luddites were people acting against new technology which was ruining their livelihood, forcing many into dire poverty – see Industrial Revolution. Luddites would destroy the machines. On the other hand, in logical protest there are many right now who reject and seek to do away with the new tech, and many more who believe that if it can’t be banished, then it should at least be controlled and not allowed to cause havoc in society.
It can easily be argued that writers of all kinds, graphic artists, animators, human innovators generally have a just cause and purpose, which is to prevent the makers of AI from galloping off with their copyright material and rewarding them with theft as they suck the life out of whatever they can find to train themselves on.
On the other side, it’s becoming valuable even as it decreases the value of the material it steals.
I offer you two articles, The Guardian, UK which warns of an AI apocalypse, and this article by Satyen K Bordoloi. He ends with this quote (the entire article is well worth a read!) :
The need today is for neo-Luddites, AI-Luddites to rise to highlight the real and immediate dangers of the rampant deployment of AI on life and society. Their secondary task could be to expose the hypocrisy, stupidity and evil intentions of the doomsayers of AI, for these people do more harm than any purported good they claim can come from it.
